TODAY’S TAROT: Knight of Pentacles

Once again, I asked the cards what my friends needed to know today. Allow me to introduce you to my old friend, the Knight of Pentacles! His primary message to me has typically been “just do the work that’s in front of you!”

Knights represent action or “the doing.” And the pentacles indicate the material realm: “real” stuff, being down to earth. So the Knight of Pentacles, I like to think, reminds us to not hesitate to do the work, the chores, the tasks, that are right in front of us.

He usually appears when my dreams are getting lofty and I’m wishing I had bigger and better things to work on. He doesn’t tell us to stop dreaming, but he tells us to not hesitate to do the work that is right in front of us. For me, that means things like grading papers and returning emails.

This Knight reminds us that grandiosity is good, but you can only achieve it by doing the work that’s already on your plate. You don’t need to make a big thing of it, and you shouldn’t force yourself. Instead, ask “will I feel better if I just start handling these tasks?” “Why am I avoiding them?”

Just do it! You know, the work that’s staring you in the face. See if you find something rewarding or satisfying about those tasks. You’ll feel better if you just get started. It doesn’t need to feel like a chore!
